Saturday, July 12, 2014 Highlights. Beginning with the Somme 1916 Battles, this gallery includes images from our visit to the Newfoundland Memorial at Beaumont-Hamel, where the Newfoundland Regiment was virtually wiped out on July 1, 1916. It also includes pictures from our visit to the impressive Franco-British Memorial at Thiepval, the Lochnagar Crater at La Boisselle and the Courcelette and Amiens battlefields. Finally, there are several pictures from our afternoon in Peronne, France at the Museum of the Great War and our evening in Amiens, France.
